Intercity Transit has just been recognized by the American Public Transportation Association as the best mid-sized transit service in the nation. I was hoping to go to the award ceremony yesterday to show my support, but was unable to attend. The event was held downtown at the Olympia Transit Center and featured representatives from Capital Bicycling Club, Climate Solutions, and Plug In Olympia among others.
I did swing by on my way through town just to check it out and it looked like there was a pretty decent turnout. I have to commend IT for increasing their ridership, maintaining (relatively) convenient service, and of course for having bike racks on all their buses. They have also taken some nice green steps like using biodiesel. Apparently, IT also is planning to purchase some hybrid diesel-electric buses in the near future. Having a hybrid running on biodiesel would be a pretty nice setup.
It’s still way more fun to bike than bus though.
